Why not just freeze them in time while you fix the problem? Or stuff them in a pocket dimension where they can't hurt anyone?

Or since there are definitely beings more powerful than Genies, ask them for for help?

It's a little more complicated than that.

See, Marid is all about alternative universes. It could cause serious damage to freeze time in one place and have the others go on. As for freezing all of them, that's just impossible because they're infinite.

As for pocket dimension, it wouldn't be fair for the bound genies to be pulled out of their lives, when the real issue lies in the wish makers which is pretty much every other species.

I guess it's normal for something as mystical as this, but my head is hurting trying to figure this out. Probably because it's confusing in the first place.

Though I suppose "Just because it's magic" is likely a good enough explanation...

It is confusing. No worries tho, Marida will explain it a little better in the next page :)

And I don't like using the "Just because it's magic" as a reason... I feel like that's just lazy writing.

The originals wish it was only five cats...

I presume bound genies created after are also affected by the curse. Otherwise they might try to find a way to remove the effects one bound genie at a time, working their way through the finite number until done. (Working on that project might even become a punishment duty.)

Actually because of the curse, no more genies are created. Only way to become a genie, is to trade places with one.
